Edith Elizabeth "Jac" McCarty passed away on July 9, 2012, at the age of 93 after a brief illness. She was born on August 2, 1918, in Waco, Texas to Elmer Wiley Daniel and Mamie Loretta Lamar Daniel. She was a graduate of Baylor University.
Jac enjoyed her weekly bridge game with her long-time friends Lois Chesney, Lorene Sparks, Candy Mayes, and Flora Boren (her cousin).
She was a member of First Baptist Church for 53 years. She volunteered for a temporary position teaching Sunday School to four and five year olds which lasted 23 years. She also served on the Teller Committee for many years, preparing the offering for deposit in the bank.
She was a devoted and loving mother who will be remembered for her positive outlook, quiet strength, kindness, and lively sense of humor.
Edith is predeceased by her husband, Robert Curtis "Mac" McCarty, and her daughter, Janice Kay McCarty.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Kerry McCarty of Austin, daughter, Robin Elaine McCarty of Corpus Christi, son, Robert Lamar McCarty of Corpus Christi, and sister Evelyn Whittington.
She is also survived by her grandsons, Alex McCarty (Rebecca) of College Station, Capt. Ryan Jarrell of Austin, SSG Max Staples (Savera) in Germany, David Doolittle in Hawaii, Konrad Staples of Omaha, Nebraska, and Marcus Doolittle of Corpus Christi.
Other special family members are David Doolittle, Sr. and Paul DaSilva.
She had six great-grandchildren; Hannah, Maddie, and Carter McCarty; Kyler and Tariah Staples; and Alaia Jarrell.
Our special thanks to the staff of the Heart Hospital and the Flower Ministry of First Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 13, 2012, at 2pm in the chapel at First Baptist Church—Corpus Christi. There will be a private interment at a later date at Seaside Cemetery.
