Wilbert Wiggins Sr. was born on May 16, 1935 in the town of Little River Township, North Carolina. He was the son of Connie and Viola Wiggins. He completed his elementary studies and graduated from James E Shepard High School in Zebulon, North Carolina. In 1955, Wilbert enlisted into the United States Navy where he worked as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. He served faithfully and honorably and retired in May 1975 after 20 years of service.

While serving in the United States Navy, Wilbert found and married the love of his life, Roberta Cammack on March 26,1960 in Menlo Park, California. They were stationed in locations such as California, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and Texas. They were happily married for 56 years until the time of his death.
After retiring from the United States Navy in 1975, Wilbert joined the faculty of the Texas A&I system. He worked as assistant Chief of Police at what was then Texas A&I University and retired in 1995 after 20 years of dedicated service at what was at that time Corpus Christi State University.

Wilbert accepted Christ at an early age. He worshipped at Waldron Road Baptist Church after he retired from the military for many years under the direction of Reverend G.A. Summers and Pastor Ken De Koning. He was an active member who served on ministries such as the Men's Brotherhood and the choir. Throughout his life, Wilbert was known as a person who loved people. He wore a big smile everywhere he went and always saw the best in those he came in contact with.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Connie and Viola Wiggins, brothers Willard Wiggins, Grover Wiggins, Rudolph Wiggins, and Wardell Wiggins; sisters Kathleen Tubman, Magalene Foster, and Corinna Perry.

Wilbert leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his living: His lovely wife Roberta Wiggins; sister Ezell Morgan; children Janet White, Sheila Sylvester (James Sylvester), Wilbert Wiggins Jr. (Angela Wiggins), Gregory Wiggins (Paula Wiggins), and Sarah Robinson; grandchildren Jearwaun Tuck, Cher-ri Paige, Brittany Wiggins, Maurice Wiggins, Chantel Preston, Ashley Harris, James Sylvester II, Cierra Wiggins, Brandon Harris, Jahquin Robinson, Jason Sylvester, Serenity Sylester; and great grandchildren Nakeya Preston, Daigan Tuck, Hailey Tolley, Jeremiah Preston, Jaylei Tuck, Kylee Wallace, Logan Tuck, and Amore Wiggins.
