Orea Alvin Ehlers, Jr. passed away on September 30, 2016. He was born September 7, 1922 at the Walker Estate in Corpus Christi, Texas to Orea A. Ehlers, Sr. and Francis R. Walker Ehlers.
After graduating from Odem High School he attended Del Mar College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force attending many hours of Technical School. He was a flight engineer on B-29 Air Craft.
In 1945 he married Norma Jean Clendennen of Sinton Texas. After his discharge, he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and raised two daughters working at the Naval Air Station as an Aircraft Supervisor and U.S. Government Inspector. In 1959, he worked for Dresser Industries as a Service Representative. He traveled the world over as a representative of this corporation. Orea retired from Dresson Industries in 1981. After retiring, he and his wife traveled the U.S.A. in their motor home for a number of years and belonged to 2 motor home clubs. The Texas Hill Country was a favorite. He enjoyed watching and feeding the exotic wildlife and Bass fishing in the Texas Rivers.
Orea is preceded in death by his parents, Orea Ehlers and Francis Ehlers; his in laws, M.B. and Bernice Clenndennen and a baby grandson, Richard Reid.
He is survived by wife of 71 years, Norma Jean Ehlers; 2 daughters, Orene Custer (Mark) and Bobye Farrier (Garner) both of Lake Corpus Christi, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Chris Stephens (Brenda) of Wichita, Kansas, Lawrene Hardy (Tyler) of Corpus Christi, Texas; 4 great-grandchildren, Colin Escobar (Leah), twins, Troy and Trey Chavarria of Corpus Christi, Texas, Barrett Stephens of Wichita Kansas; 1 brother, John W. Ehlers (Elaine) of San Antonio, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Mark Custer, Garner Farrier, Colin Escobar, Trey Chavarria, Shane Custer and Tyler Hardy.
Visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Seaside Memorial Park.
