Melvin Maddry joined his heavenly father on Friday, September 23, 2016. Born in Snow Hill, Arkansas on September 27, 1928. He was raised in Minden, Louisiana then moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he graduated High School. Melvin was 87 years old.
Melvin moved to Corpus Christi and began his career with the City's Survey Department. He retired in 1984 after working thirty years for the Texas Highway Department. In his spare time, Melvin became a registered public surveyor and through his hard work developed a successful survey business. He truly loved working outdoors.
In 1953, Melvin married his wife Wanda Lou Davis, and they were married for 57 years. Wanda and Melvin raised three wonderful children. Treasured memories include the family vacations visiting the National Parks in the United States. One of the fondest camping trips was to Canada.
Papaw to three grandchildren, he was a wonderful grandfather who loved spending time with them. Melvin was a devoted member of Travis Baptist Church and enjoyed serving as Deacon for several years.
Melvin is preceded in death by his wife Wanda Lou Davis Maddry, parents Mary and Melvin Maddry, Sr., brother John Allen (Tillie) Maddry and sister Martha Stegura, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by three children Lisa Maddry Rocha, Carolyn (Taylor) Mauck, and Mel Maddry; grandchildren: Andrea Rocha, Mariah Mauck, and Trevor Mauck; and numerous extended family members of the Maddry and Davis families.
The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff at Spohn South and Shoreline Hospitals for their care and kindness. A special thanks to Melissa, ICU Nurse for her tender professional care and family support.
Services will be held at Seaside Memorial Park on Monday, September 26, 2016. Family visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and graveside services at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart and Stroke Association.
