KAREN ALICE BARKER GRIFFIN, beloved wife of John Edward "Ed" Griffin for 56 years, peacefully entered eternal rest on December 30, 2016.

Karen was born in Austin on August 3, 1944, to C. O. "Dick" and Evelyn Grip Barker. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Ed, in the historic Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Together they raised four children--"the four J's"-- in Texas, Alberta, British Columbia and Northwest Territories. Karen joyfully accompanied Ed, whether snowshoeing in the Arctic, beach camping in Mexico or rocking the casinos.

In addition to family life, church, Marriage Encounter, and helping create Kids of the Neighborhood daycare, Karen steadily attended classes at Texas A&M Corpus Christi (formerly Corpus Christi State University) and proudly achieved her goal of a BA in arts education. She loved teaching art at Moody High School and even after retirement in 2011 she was always delighted to run into former students.

An accomplished florist and studio artist, Karen was blessed with natural charisma, a gorgeous smile and beautiful blue eyes. She was a legendary cook who whipped up elaborate seafood feasts for her adored family.
Karen is survived by her husband Ed; sister Marci Nichols and husband Nick; sister-in-law, Betty Barker; children June Griffin and husband Guillermo Garcia; Jeff Griffin and wife Debbie; Jennifer McAndrews and husband Greg; grandchildren Austyn Griffin, Cameron Griffin, Nico (Karen), Rafi and Carlos Griffin-Garcia; Kelly and Kate McAndrews; Chelsea and Bradley Griffin; and great-grandchildren Aidan and Kara Maldonado and Nico Griffin-Garcia Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her loving parents, brother, Charles Barker and son John Edward Griffin, Jr.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Seaside Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017, at St. Mark's Lutheran's Church. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church In memory of Karen Griffin.
