Jose R. Garcia, 83 passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born to Ramon and Delfina Garcia on July 12, 1933 in Ben Bolt, TX. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.

He graduated from Ben Bolt High School as Valedictorian and attended Texas A&I University as an engineering student.  In 1952, he answered the call of duty and volunteered for the U.S. Air Force.   He served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam wars.  Other duty stations included San Antonio, Guam, New Hampshire, Nebraska, and Michigan.  He retired from the military after 21 years and worked another 19 years at both the U.S. Postal Service and the Corpus Christi Army Depot before fully retiring from federal service.

After enlisting in the Air Force, Jose wed his junior high school sweetheart, Adelina De la Cruz on July 11, 1954 and they were blessed with seven children, Glenda Trejo, Yvonne Orozco (Rey) Martha Garcia Brooks (Earl), Bernadette Recio (Oscar), Jose R. Garcia Jr (Dorothy), Lisa Donnelly (Robert), and Jaime Garcia (Michelle).  In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Grandchildren:  Israel Cantu (Minda) Gabriel Cantu (Bernadette), Angelica Andrade (Martin), Daniel Cantu, Nathaniel Cantu, Matthew Brooks (Sufia), Megan Garcia, Christina Cantu, Kathryn Recio, Alison Brooks, Jose R. Garcia, III, Joshua Garcia, Meredith Garcia, Jacob Recio, Abigail Garcia, Gabrielle Garcia, Jacqueline Garcia, Travis Donnelly, Jaime Garcia Jr, Audrey Orozco. Great grandchildren:  Leilua, Alyssa, Tripp, Jaxon, Andrew, Zander, Adela, Alina, Zayden, Skylar. 

While family was his greatest love, he was a loyal fan to the Cowboys, Yankees, Celtics, and Longhorns.  He shared his love of sports, volunteering as a soccer and baseball coach.   While in the military, he enjoyed snorkeling and diving amassing a unique collection of pacific shells and corals. In later years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and family to Las Vegas and on cruises.  

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
