Joan Spears Collins was born January 21, 1933 in Aransas Pass, Texas and passed away on December 8, 2016. She was the third of five children born to Lucille and E.E. Spears. She was in the last graduating class of Corpus Christi High School and three days later began working for PPG Industries at the age of 17. She worked for PPG Industries for a total of 40 years, moving to Ohio and Pennsylvania when they closed the Corpus Christi plant. She retired in 1994 and moved back to her beloved family and Texas. She was devoted to her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, all family and she leaves them with a legacy of love. She was a member of Lexington Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Sam Collins, parents Lucille and E.E. Spears, and sisters Elaine Richey and Bonnie Myers. She is survived by daughters Laurie (Wayne) Jackson of Corpus Christi, and Julie Graves of San Antonio. Grandchildren - Amy (Kirk) Strickland, Sam (Lyndsay) Jackson, and Alex Graves. Two great- grandsons Jackson and Will Strickland. Sister Thelma Bradshaw and her brother Elliot Spears.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the dedicated nurses and staff at Villa South and to Christus Hospice for their professional and kind compassionate care giving.
Pallbearers: Matthew Cravey, Alex Graves, Sam Jackson, Greg Spears, Kyle Spears, and Kirk Strickland.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00a.m., Saturday, December 10 at Seaside Chapel with Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
