And even though you die, you shall live foreverů and I will raise you up on the last day. Our beloved mother and Nana, Dixie Hughes, entered eternal life on Tuesday, Oct. 25th, 2016 at the age of 70. Dixie was born in St. Louis, MO on September 17, 1946 to Mary and Oscar Rigsbee. She moved to Corpus Christi with her parents and Sister Janet as a young child and spent most of her life in Corpus Christi. Dixie's greatest joy in her life were her three children - Suzanne, Brian, Jason, and their families. She was a very proud mom and "Nana" to her six grandchildren. She never missed the kids sporting events, first communions, school programs, or dance recitals. She also loved her dog Foster - and spoiled him rotten.
Dixie was in apartment management for many years. She made many close friends during those years. After she retired, she found great joy as an antique dealer. Dixie could never pass up an estate sale! She opened up a business in Fredericksburg and enjoyed trips to the hill country to be with all of her friends. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and devotion to her family. Dixie was always looking forward to spending time with all of her kids - including nieces and nephews that she loved and cherished.
Dixie is preceded in death by her parents Mary & Oscar Rigsbee, her sister Janet Jones, and her brother- in- law Dick Jones. She is survived by her daughter Suzanne Banfield, son-in-law Brett Banfield, son Brian Campbell, son Jason Campbell and his wife Tiffany Campbell, and her six grandchildren Logan Campbell, Megan Banfield, Bryce Banfield, Sophie Campbell, Luke Banfield, and Josh Banfield. She is also survived by her niece Michelle Starr (Erik), nephew Steven Jones, niece Melissa Nemec (Kevin) and her great nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her many close friends.
Visitation will be held from 6pm - 9pm on Friday, October 26, 2016 at Seaside Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9am on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, TX. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Logan Campbell, Bryce Banfield, Steven Jones, Javier Camacho, J.C. Camacho, and Donovan Diou.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of the wonderful doctors and nurses at M.D. Anderson who showed such compassion to our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas on her behalf. To honor Dixie's memory please visit:
